Private Home for a Birthday Get-Together: Budget, Rules

Booking a private home for a birthday or get-together in Delhi NCR? How to split the cost per head, what needs approval, and the rules that catch groups out.

A private home is a good place for a birthday. You get space to be loud with your friends, a kitchen, and no one waiting for you to leave at midnight. It is also where groups run into the same few problems: the bill is bigger than expected, someone turns up who was not on the list, or the host says the party was not allowed.

This guide is about avoiding those. It covers how to work out the real cost per head, the rules that matter most, and the questions to ask before you pay.

Start with one honest number

Before you look at homes, write down how many people will be there, and how many will sleep over.

These are not the same. A home might comfortably host 20 for the evening but sleep only 8. Our listings state guest capacity, and maximum guest count is strictly enforced. Only the guests named in the booking may stay overnight. If more people turn up than the booking allows, you can be asked to send them home.

It is also worth being clear about day guests. Day visitors are allowed only with prior written approval from Edens Home or the caretaker. If friends are coming only for the evening, tell us in advance.

What a party needs approval for

This is the rule that catches groups out.

Parties, events and commercial shoots need explicit prior approval. Never assume they are allowed. A quiet dinner with friends in a home you have booked is one thing. A party with music, decorations and a crowd is another, and the home’s own rules decide what is possible.

Before you book, ask:

  • Is a small party or get-together allowed at this home?
  • What is the music cut-off time?
  • What is the maximum number of people at one time, not just overnight?
  • Are there any rules on decorations, cakes, balloons or confetti?
  • What are the rules on alcohol and smoking? Smoking is outdoors only, where the listing allows it.

Each home’s rules are on its listing and can differ a lot. The baseline house rules apply to every stay, and the listing’s version governs where it says something different.

It is far easier to get approval before you book than to fix it afterwards. Illegal activity, including drugs, is prohibited, and a breach can end the stay early without a refund.

How to work out the real cost per head

Group bookings go wrong when people split the nightly rate and forget the rest. Add up everything, then divide.

  1. The nightly rate for each night of the stay.
  2. Weekend nights. Some stays carry an extra amount for weekend nights, shown as its own line at checkout.
  3. Per-guest charges, if the home charges for guests beyond a base number.
  4. Our 14% service fee, shown as its own line before you pay.
  5. A security deposit, which some homes take at check-in and which is held against damage or rule breaches.
  6. Food, drinks, decorations and a cab, which are yours to plan.

Divide the total by the number of people paying. Agree it in the group chat before anyone pays, and decide who collects the money.

An illustrative example, not the price of a real home: if the total came to 30,000 rupees and ten people were splitting it, that is 3,000 rupees each, before food. If a friend drops out the week before, the cost per head rises, so decide in advance how that is handled.

If you stay for 7 nights or more, you get 10% off the nightly rate, and 15% from 14 nights. For a birthday weekend this is unlikely to apply.

Who books, and who is responsible

The person who books is responsible for everyone in the group.

  • Booking. The booker must be 18 or over, and stays for the whole booking. Bookings cannot be handed to someone else without our approval.
  • ID. Every guest shows valid government photo ID at check-in, which the caretaker checks.
  • Damage. The group is liable for damage caused by anyone, including approved visitors. Claims are supported with photographs, repair estimates or invoices. Disputes can be raised within 14 days of checkout.

Pick a booker who is organised and will keep everyone to the rules, and do not leave it to whoever has the credit card.

How to book

Bookings are approved by the owner before payment is taken. Payment is online, and no cash is collected at the property. Some bookings allow a 50% advance, with the rest paid online before check-in.

Each home has a cancellation tier: Easy gives a full refund of the stay amount, minus the service fee, if you cancel at least 24 hours before check-in. Moderate needs at least 7 days. Strict is non-refundable. Groups drop out, so check the tier before you pay, and remember that changing dates counts as cancelling and booking again.

A checklist for the group chat

  1. Fix the number of people and the number sleeping over.
  2. Ask the host about parties, music and visitors, before booking.
  3. Add up every cost, including the fee and any deposit, and split it.
  4. Choose the booker, and agree who collects the money.
  5. Everyone brings valid ID.
  6. Read the listing’s house rules together, so nobody is surprised at the door.

Our guide to how pricing works explains each line of the total, which is useful when you are splitting it, and our couples guide explains the ID rules that apply to every guest.
