Couple Stays in Delhi: ID, Age and House Rules

Booking a private home in Delhi NCR as a couple? Adult couples are welcome. Which ID you need, the age rule, how check-in works and what house rules to read first.

Searching for a place to stay as a couple in Delhi can be oddly stressful. Many people are not sure what ID they need, whether the place will accept their booking, or what happens at check-in. Most of what you find online is vague, or written by someone selling rooms.

This guide is the plain version for Edens Home. We welcome adult couples, whether or not you are married. What follows is exactly what we ask of every guest, so you know before you pay.

The short answer

  • Adult couples are welcome.
  • Every guest shows valid government photo ID at check-in. This applies to everyone, whether you are a couple, a family, a group of friends or a colleague on a work trip. It is not a rule for couples in particular.
  • The person who books must be 18 or over.
  • The home is private. You book the whole home, not a room in someone else’s.

Which ID is accepted

We accept a valid government-issued photo ID. The ones named in our terms are:

  • Aadhaar
  • Driving licence
  • Voter ID
  • Passport

Bring the original. Check with our team if you are unsure about a particular document. Every guest in the booking needs one, not just the person who booked.

Foreign nationals are welcome too. They need a passport with a valid Indian visa, and as Indian law requires, their details are reported through the property owner.

How check-in works

ID is checked at check-in, by the caretaker of the home or through our team. In practice:

  1. You arrive in the check-in window shown on the listing.
  2. The caretaker checks the ID of each guest, or the details are shared with our team.

We do not yet have an automated online verification system, so ID is checked in person at the home or shared with our team directly. If you arrive very early or very late, ask us before you book, because early check-in is subject to availability and can carry a fee set by the owner.

What the house rules cover

Each home has its own rules, shown on its listing page. Read them before you book. They typically cover:

  • Guest numbers. Only the people named in the booking may stay overnight. This is strictly enforced.
  • Visitors. Day visitors need prior written approval from us or the caretaker.
  • Quiet hours and noise. These vary by home and building.
  • Smoking. Outdoors only, and only where the listing allows it.
  • Events and parties. These always need explicit prior approval. A quiet dinner for two does not, but a gathering does.
  • Pets. Only at homes marked pet-friendly.

There are also baseline house rules that apply everywhere, on top of the home’s own. Where the two differ, the listing’s version governs your stay. Damage caused by anyone in your group is your responsibility, and some homes take a security deposit at check-in.

A few things to choose well

A quiet street. If you want calm, ask for a home away from a market or a main road. Our guide to South Delhi neighbourhoods says which areas are quiet and which are lively. Mehrauli, East of Kailash and Amar Colony are quieter. Hauz Khas village and Malviya Nagar are lively in the evening.

A kitchen. Most of our homes have one. Cooking a meal together is a good reason to book a home over a hotel room.

A terrace or open space. Some homes have a terrace. Check the listing, and the rules for using it late at night.

How booking works

  • Bookings are approved by the owner before payment is taken.
  • Payment is online. We do not take cash at the property.
  • The total, including our 14% service fee, is shown before you pay.
  • Some bookings allow a 50% advance, with the rest paid before check-in.
  • Each home shows a cancellation tier, Easy, Moderate or Strict. Changing dates counts as cancelling and booking again, so ask us before you change anything.

Stays of 7 nights or more get 10% off the nightly rate, and 14 nights or more get 15%, if you are staying longer.

Questions couples often ask us

Do we need a marriage certificate? Our rules ask for valid government photo ID from every guest, and that is the same for everyone. A marriage certificate is not part of them.

Can only one of us show ID? No. Every guest named in the booking shows ID at check-in, so please both bring yours.

What if one of us is not yet 18? The person who books must be 18 or over, and the booking is for adults. If anyone in your group is a minor, tell us before you book, so we can tell you what applies.

Can a friend join us for the evening? Day visitors need prior written approval from us or the caretaker. Only the guests named in the booking may stay overnight, and this is strictly enforced.

Is it a hotel room? No. It is a private home that you book whole, with a caretaker for the stay. There is no front desk, no restaurant and no daily housekeeping unless the listing says so. For many couples that privacy is the point, and for some a hotel is the better fit. We would rather you chose with that clear.

Can we celebrate something small? A quiet dinner for two does not need approval. A gathering does. If you are planning a surprise or anything with other people, ask us first. Our guide to birthday and get-together stays explains how approvals work.

A short checklist

  1. Both of you have valid government photo ID, ready for check-in.
  2. The person booking is 18 or over.
  3. You have read the listing’s house rules.
  4. You know the check-in window, and have told us if you will be early or late.
  5. You have the booking confirmation number saved.

If you have a question about a specific home or document, ask us on WhatsApp before you book. We would rather answer it now than at the door. Our house rules and terms of service have the full detail.
