Relocating to Delhi NCR: Your First 30 Days
Moving to Delhi or Gurgaon for work? How to use your first month: choose a base by your office, test the commute, and what a monthly stay costs. Real drive times.
If your company is moving you to Delhi NCR, the first month decides how the next year feels. Most people spend it badly: a hotel room with no kitchen, a flat signed from another city, and a commute they only discover on day three.
There is a better way to use the first 30 days. Stay somewhere flexible, test the city properly, and sign a lease only when you know where you actually want to live. This guide covers how to do that, with real drive times from our homes to the places most people work.
What your first month is for
A first month in a new city has three jobs.
- Test the commute at the real hour. A route that takes 12 minutes at 11 pm can take far longer at 9 am on a Tuesday. Drive it, or take a cab, at the time you will actually travel.
- See flats in person. Photos and brokers will not tell you about the noise, the lift or the parking. A base near the areas you are considering lets you see two or three in a day.
- Settle the small things. Bank, SIM, ID copies, a place to cook and do laundry. These go faster from a home than from a hotel.
A hotel can do none of these well for 30 days. A home with a kitchen and a door of your own can do all three.
Pick your base by your office
The most useful question is not “which area is nicest”. It is “where will I work”. Here are measured driving times from some of our home areas to three business hubs. They are road distances from the middle of each area, worked out on a map at a quiet time of day, with no traffic. Rush hour takes longer, so use them to compare areas, not to promise a journey time.
| Our home area | To DLF Cyber City | To Nehru Place | To Aerocity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gurgaon, Sector 22 | about 8.5 km, 10 min | about 26 km, 30 min | about 11 km, 12 min |
| Vasant Kunj | about 11 km, 12 min | about 14 km, 19 min | about 6 km, 9 min |
| Mehrauli | about 14 km, 16 min | about 10 km, 14 min | about 9 km, 13 min |
| Hauz Khas | about 18 km, 19 min | about 6 km, 9 min | about 12 km, 15 min |
| CR Park | about 24 km, 26 min | about 2 km, 5 min | about 18 km, 22 min |
| East of Kailash | about 23 km, 27 min | about 1.6 km, 3 min | about 17 km, 23 min |
Two things stand out. If you work in Cyber City, Sector 22 in Gurgaon is the closest of our homes, and Vasant Kunj is the nearest South Delhi option. If you work in Nehru Place, the colonies around Greater Kailash are minutes away.
We should be honest about our map. Most of our homes are in South Delhi, with fewer in Gurgaon and Greater Noida, and we are adding more across Delhi NCR. If your office is in Gurgaon, tell us early and we will say plainly whether we have a sensible home for you. You can see what we have on our Gurgaon page and our South Delhi page.
How a longer stay works with us
The rules for a month are the same as for a night, with a discount for staying longer.
- The discount. Stays of 7 to 13 nights get 10% off the nightly rate. Stays of 14 nights or more get 15% off. This applies on every home today and is shown at checkout.
- The service fee. We add a 14% service fee, shown as its own line before you pay. There is no cash collected at the property.
- Booking. Bookings are approved by the owner before payment is taken, and payment is online. Some bookings allow a 50% advance, with the rest paid before check-in.
- Cancellation. Each home has one of three tiers, Easy, Moderate or Strict, shown on the listing. Changing dates counts as cancelling and booking again under that home’s tier, so talk to us before you change anything.
- ID. Every guest shows valid government photo ID at check-in. You must be 18 or over to book.
Our monthly stays page explains the long-stay terms in more detail.
What to ask before you book a month
A longer stay is worth five minutes of questions. Message our team and ask about these for the home you like.
- Utilities. What is included and what is not, for a stay of several weeks?
- Kitchen. Most of our homes have a kitchen, and the listing shows what it includes. Check that it suits how you cook.
- Wi-Fi. Every listing has Wi-Fi. If you will be on video calls all day, say so and ask about the connection in that home.
- A desk. If you need a proper place to work, ask whether the home has a desk or a table you can use. Do not assume.
- Parking. Most homes have parking, but check for the specific home, especially if you will have a car for the month.
- Housekeeping. Ask how often it happens and who arranges it.
If the company is paying
If your employer is covering the stay, share your company GSTIN with our team when you book and we will arrange a GST invoice. Keep the booking confirmation number together with it, because your accounts team will ask for both.
A simple 30-day plan
- Days 1 to 3: settle in, buy groceries, do the commute once at the real hour.
- Days 4 to 14: see flats in the areas you shortlisted. Visit each at the time of day you would be home.
- Days 15 to 25: decide, negotiate, and sort the paperwork for the flat.
- Days 26 to 30: move out of your base, hand back the home, and keep your booking details for your records.
Not every stay needs the whole month. If you find a flat sooner, you can book a shorter stay next time. If it takes longer, the 15% discount from 14 nights keeps a longer stay from costing more per night.
Tell us your office location and your dates on WhatsApp and we will suggest homes that make sense for your commute. You can also browse monthly stays and corporate stays first.
