Staying Near AIIMS Delhi as an Attendant

Coming to AIIMS Delhi with a patient? The hospital's own rest houses, private homes with kitchens, real drive times from Hauz Khas and nearby, and what to ask.

If you are reading this, someone in your family is probably unwell, and you are about to spend a lot of days in a city that may be new to you. We are not doctors and this is not medical advice. It is a practical guide to the other half of the problem: where you will sleep, eat and rest while you are there.

We will give you every option, including the ones that are not ours.

Start with the hospital’s own arrangements

AIIMS has run rest houses and dharamshalas for attendants of patients, and for many families these are the right first call. Some of them need a written note from the treating doctor. Availability and rules change, and they can fill up, so ask the AIIMS administration directly before you travel and confirm what is open now. We cannot tell you the current rules, and we would not trust anyone who says they can without checking.

If a place is available there, it will be nearer than anything we can offer, and it may cost less. Take it.

When a private home makes sense

A private home is worth considering when:

  • the hospital’s arrangements are full, or do not suit your family,
  • you are a group, and want one place rather than several rooms,
  • someone in the family needs to cook, because of diet, habit or simply cost,
  • you do not know how long the stay will be, and want a price that falls the longer you stay.

It makes less sense if you want to be at the hospital gate. Our nearest homes are a short drive away, not a walk. We would rather you know that now.

How far our homes are from AIIMS

These are measured road distances from the middle of each area to AIIMS, worked out on a map at a quiet time of day with no traffic. Rush hour takes longer, and the exact figure depends on the home.

Area By road By car Our homes
Hauz Khas 3.8 to 4.4 km 6 min 7
Amar Colony 4.1 km 7 min 2
Lajpat Nagar 4.4 km 7 min 4
Kailash Colony 4.6 km 6 min 1
East of Kailash 5.1 km 7 min 3
Malviya Nagar 6.6 km 9 min 2

Safdarjung Hospital is only a few hundred metres from AIIMS, so the same homes serve both. From the nearest Hauz Khas homes it is about 3 km and 4 minutes.

AIIMS also has its own metro station right at the hospital, so you can reach it from across the city without a car. See our full page for stays near AIIMS and Safdarjung with the nearby places mapped.

What to look for in a home

A kitchen. Most of our homes have one. Over several days it means you can eat when you are able to, rather than when a restaurant is open. The listing shows what each home includes, and our team can tell you what is in the kitchen if it matters.

A lift or a low floor. Not every home has a lift. If stairs are hard for someone in your family, tell us before you book.

Check-in times. Each listing shows them. If you may arrive very early or very late, ask before you book, because early check-in is subject to availability and can carry a fee set by the owner.

Space to sleep. The number of guests you give us is strictly enforced, so tell us the real number, including children, who is staying overnight.

The money, plainly

  • The nightly rate is set by the owner and shown on the listing.
  • We add a 14% service fee, shown as its own line. The total is shown before you pay.
  • Stays of 7 to 13 nights get 10% off the nightly rate. Stays of 14 nights or more get 15% off. This applies on every home today.
  • Payment is online. We do not collect cash at the property.
  • Bookings are approved by the owner before payment is taken.

If the stay runs longer than you planned, the discount means the extra days do not cost more per night. Dates can still be a problem, though: changing dates counts as cancelling the original booking and booking again, under that home’s cancellation tier. If you can, ask us before you change anything, and whether the home is free for more nights depends on its calendar.

What you will need at check-in

Every guest shows valid government photo ID, such as Aadhaar, a driving licence, a voter ID or a passport. The caretaker checks it, or it is shared with our team. The person who books must be 18 or over, and must stay for the whole booking. Foreign nationals are welcome, and need a passport and a valid Indian visa.

A short checklist before you travel

  1. Ask AIIMS about its rest house or dharamshala, and what you need to bring.
  2. Decide how many nights you can commit to, and how many you might need.
  3. Pick a home with a kitchen, if you will cook.
  4. Tell us about arrival time, stairs, and the real number of people.
  5. Keep the booking confirmation number and ID in your phone.

Edens Home is not connected to AIIMS or to any hospital, and we do not recommend doctors or treatments. If you would like us to look for a home for your dates, message our team on WhatsApp with how many of you there are and how long you expect to stay.
