Delhi Wedding Guests: A Stay Plan for the Whole Family
Bringing a family to a Delhi NCR wedding? How to plan rooms, beds and timing, why a home can beat several hotel rooms, and the rules on guests and visitors.
A wedding in Delhi NCR means the family travels. Aunts, cousins, grandparents and children arrive from other cities over a few days, and someone has to work out where they will all sleep. The couple’s family is busy with the wedding itself, so often it falls to one cousin with a spreadsheet and a lot of phone calls.
A good plan solves three things: enough beds, a place that is near the venue, and a place where the family can actually be together between functions. This guide is for whoever has been handed that job.
Start with the real numbers
Before you look at a single listing, write down:
- Who is coming, and on which nights. Not everyone stays for the whole wedding.
- How many people will sleep overnight, including children and elders. This number is not flexible. Maximum guest count is strictly enforced at every home, and only the guests named in the booking may stay overnight.
- Who needs what. Elders who cannot manage stairs, a family with a baby, a couple who want their own room.
- Which functions are where. A haldi at a farmhouse, a ceremony at a banquet hall and a reception at a hotel are rarely in the same neighbourhood.
Why a home can beat several hotel rooms
Five or six hotel rooms scatter a family across corridors and floors. A single home keeps everyone under one roof.
- One address. Cars, lifts and directions are simpler.
- A shared living room. The family has somewhere to sit between functions, to get ready and to talk.
- A kitchen. Most of our homes have one. Tea in the morning, a quick meal when the day goes long, and food for elders who prefer their own.
- A price that adds up. Compare one home against several rooms on the total, including the 14% service fee, which is shown before you pay.
Hotel rooms win where there is room service, a banquet venue attached or a daily housekeeping routine you want. A home is not a hotel, and we say so.
Where to stay depends on the venue
South Delhi is large, and journey times can be long. These are measured road distances from some of our home areas to Bharat Mandapam, the large exhibition and events centre in Pragati Maidan, on a map at a quiet time of day. Your venue is probably elsewhere, but it shows how much the area matters.
| Our home area | To Bharat Mandapam |
|---|---|
| Lajpat Nagar | about 8 km, 14 min |
| Amar Colony | about 10 km, 15 min |
| East of Kailash | about 10 km, 16 min |
| Hauz Khas | about 12 km, 17 min |
| CR Park | about 13 km, 18 min |
For a wedding in the farmhouse belt, Chhatarpur and Mehrauli put you close. For events around Greater Kailash and Lajpat Nagar, CR Park and the colonies around it are practical, and CR Park’s market stays open late for the many small things a wedding needs. Our South Delhi neighbourhood guide explains each area.
Once you know the venue, send us its name and we will tell you honestly whether we have homes nearby.
Several homes, close together
For a big family, one home may not be enough. Two or three homes in the same area, booked together, can work well. Tell us the total headcount and the dates, and we will suggest homes that are close to each other. Each home has its own booking, its own cancellation tier and its own check-in, so keep the confirmation numbers together.
The rules to know before you book
These matter more for a wedding than for most stays.
- Guest count. Only the number of guests in the booking may stay overnight.
- Visitors. Day visitors are allowed only with prior written approval from Edens Home or the caretaker. A wedding with relatives dropping in all day needs that arranged in advance.
- Events. Parties, events or any function at the home need explicit prior approval. Never assume they are allowed. If you plan a small haldi or sangeet at the home, ask first. Some homes have music cut-off times, and farmhouse event homes have their own limits.
- Smoking is outdoors only, and only where the listing allows it.
- ID. Every guest shows valid government photo ID at check-in. The person who booked must stay for the whole booking, and bookings cannot be handed to someone else without our approval.
- Foreign relatives are welcome. They need a passport with a valid Indian visa, and details are shared as Indian law requires.
How booking works, and the traps
Bookings on Edens Home are approved by the owner before payment is taken. Payment is online, and we do not take cash at the property. Some bookings allow a 50% advance, with the rest paid online before check-in.
The trap in wedding planning is changing dates. Changing dates counts as cancelling the original booking and booking again, and that home’s cancellation tier applies. Weddings shift, so check the tier on each listing before you pay. Easy cancellation gives a full refund of the stay amount, minus the service fee, if you cancel at least 24 hours before check-in. Moderate needs at least 7 days. Strict is non-refundable.
A simple timeline
- As soon as the date is fixed: count the people and the nights, and list the venues.
- Six to eight weeks ahead if you can: ask about homes near the main venue. Good homes go for popular dates.
- Two to three weeks ahead: confirm numbers and make the booking, paying any advance.
- A few days before: send the caretaker your arrival times, and your ID copies if asked.
- Arrival day: keep the booking confirmation number handy and the booker present.
Tell us the venue, the dates and the headcount on WhatsApp. You can browse South Delhi homes in the meantime, or see family stays.
